Al sinds jaar en dag spaar ik kruisbeelden. Om twee redenen: allereerst gaat het mij om de gekruisigde Christusfiguur: deze figuur haal ik voorzichting van zijn kruis: ik bevrijd hem als het ware. Van alle ontkruisigde Christusfiguren leg ik een verzameling aan, die ik beschouw als een immer groeiend kunstwerk. (zie documentatie bij project 'Golgotha').

De tweede reden kan eigenlijk als bijvangst beschouwd worden. Ik bewaar de vrijgemaakte kruisen

-van hout of metaal- en voeg die samen tot coherente bundels: op elkaar gelegd van groot naar klein. Vervolgens bind ik ze vast en presenteer ze als één werk.

I have been collecting crucifixes for many years. There are two reasons for this: at first, I am interested in the crucified figure of Christ: I carefully remove this image from its cross, liberating it, as it were. I am building up a collection of all the de-crucified figures of Christ, which I regard as an ever-growing work of art. (See documentation for the “Golgotha” project).

The second reason can actually be considered a by-product. I keep the liberated crosses – made of wood or metal – and combine them into coherent bundles: stacked from large to small. I then bind them together and present them as a single work.
